Due to recent health issues, I've seen many workplaces promote working from home.
This is something I can happily say is welcomed at Nzime and has been for some time.
Employee retention isn't something the agency world is known for, so work culture is something we are constantly addressing.
After all, happier staff means bigger output.
And when working in the 100mph digital world, time in our own environment is essential.

In this brief article I'll mention a few of the advantages to WFH - for both the employee and the employer.

  • Builds trust
When used effectively, you can demonstrate that yes you can achieve the same result as being in the office, and more often than not, produce even better results by being at home. This enhances the relationship between you and your colleagues and your management.
  • Gain respect
On the back of building trust, having the ability to work from home means respect for management is strengthened - it shows acknowledgement of personal well-being, and the fact we all need some me-time every now and again.
  • Save commuting time
Jump out of bed, brush your tegs and crack on with the working day. Some people can travel 60+ mins to get to work. When at home you've saved time and also brain power - utilise both and get more output.
  • Less distractions
Got a big project to work on? Time away from the office phone and meetings that could have been emails (we've all been victim of this), mean you can get fully immersed in to the task at hand.
  • Home comforts
Your own desk, your own sofa, your own fridge even. Sometimes that's just what you need.
  • Side tasks
We all have both personal and work to-do lists. Being at home means you can tick the odd item off your personal list during your lunch break, something I know would relieve some head space for the afternoon.

"That all sounds great" I hear you cry, "but nothing's better than a physical conversation."
We agree, so at Nzime we close the communication gap and make sure we remain available for important phone or video calls (which means yes we do have to brush our hair and change out of our PJ's).

Don't get me wrong, being in the office is definitely the place to hash out strategies and develop big concepts. Sometimes you need to pull in team mates from different departments - in my case I rely on the wisdom of our top drawer designers and developers, but booking the odd WFH day every now and again helps to realign my body and soul.

Give it a whirl.
