Creativity Beyond The Screen

Georgia is our awesome Midweight Digital Designer, a natural problem solver and creative thinker. Her passion and keen eye make sure every project turns out amazing.
When I step away from the screen, my creativity doesn’t pause, it takes on a new form. Exploring hands-on crafts like pottery has become my way of continuing the creative process in a different, tactile way. It’s a refreshing shift from digital design, allowing me to slow down, embrace imperfections, and find joy in making something tangible.
I feel incredibly fortunate to be passionate about my work (sorry cliche I know, but it’s true), to be part of a truly amazing team, and to engage in creative thinking every single day.
If you’re a creative spirit, you know that restless feeling when you’re not fully satisfied with the myriad of ideas and projects swirling in your mind, always searching for that next hobby to scratch the creative itch.
For me, that’s quite frequent and I’ve always been ready to jump ship on my current creative addiction and commit 100% to the next new craft, buying all the equipment to go with it. I think ultimately it’s a desire to work with my hands, a satisfaction in making something yourself with all its little imperfections serving as a sign of the maker.
My latest obsession (and for the last two years) has been pottery. It’s quite a popular hobby at the moment and like many I’ve since watched come into the studio, I too had a quiet confidence that I was going to magically wrangle the lump of clay into something exquisite at my first attempt on the wheel. How I was mistaken...
In contrast to fast-paced agency life, pottery forces you to slow down. Whether it's applying the slightest pressure to the walls of a spinning pot or simply waiting for the right ‘leather hard’ texture of clay before you start joining together the seams. Ultimately, there's lots to learn, and it’s a good feeling when some of those things start going right.
Along the way, I couldn’t resist a bit of digital designing for my pottery profile and it was great to utilise my day-to-day skills at Nzime for a passion project. We work with a broad spectrum of clients at Nzime which helps to keep creativity flowing and to stay open-minded so I approached this ‘brief’ like any other.
Learning this craft has been quite the journey but one I’m very grateful for. It’s not only creative but personal growth that keeps me coming back - forming friendships with fellow creatives and discussing the latest techniques, to plucking up the courage to participate in my first makers market. Like any hobby every experience (away from the screen) enriches what I can then bring back to Nzime (on the screen), infused with fresh creative influences.
Long may the muddy moments continue ✌️
